Medical professionals are required to earn a certain amount of continuing education (CE) or continuing medical education (CME) credits each year in order to maintain their certifications and their licenses. The exact number of hours that is required of a professional depends on a number of different things, including the requirements of the state where they practice, and the requirements of the professional organizations from whom they received their certifications.
